You can refer yourself to Trauma OT but sometimes referrals are received from carers, partners, parents or other professionals (GP, other health professionals already supporting you).
Our services support diagnosis but we often work with undiagnosed people or those who self- identify (e.g. autisic, an ADHDer or someone with DID).
We also work alongside diagnostic services such as The Divergent Space, which offers neuroaffirming autism and ADHD assessments.
Yes, we can accept funding and we can also help with funding applications. In our experience health insurance rarely covers mental health specialist occupational therapy (frustratingly!).
However, we can support you with letters for your GP to apply for Individual Funding Requests (IFR's) via your local independent commissioning board in the NHS.
If you identify other therapy grants we are happy to assist the process with support letters, or emails of recommendation.
Trauma OT offers therapy nationwide via online services, For our in-person sessions we can visit you at home or other local community venues and we also have access to a clinic based in York.
We do usually operate a waiting list which is constantly changing. When you contact us we can sometimes give you a rough idea of the wait time but this depends on our current caseload needs.
After the consultation meeting you will be matched with the most suitable occupational therapist.
If you have a preference this will be taken into account. However, a space with another team member might become free sooner than your preference, in which case you will be offered sessions with them instead.
We understand that life unfortunately doesn't run smoothly but to operate our service effectively, we need you to let us know in advance if you are feeling unwell enough to attend.
If you cannot make an appointment we require 24 hours notice.
If you cancel within this 24-hour window or do not attend your session, unfortunately, you will be charged the full rate. We will, however, try our best to accommodate an alternative session as soon as possible.
Trauma OT is not able to offer a crisis service, however, if you are in immediate danger, at risk of harming yourself or someone else, or need urgent mental health support, contact emergency services, NHS 111 option 2 in England, or your local crisis service.
