'...You’ve helped me to do this life stuff, in small manageable steps’

What Trauma OT can do for you

How we react to traumatic events is unique to each of us. Whether we are exposed to one off or multiple adverse events will determine the severity of the symptoms and coping strategies we adopt to survive. Our sensitivity to sensory input like touch and sound can become permanently heightened/dulled and in cases of prolonged early life trauma even our movement patterns can be impacted (resulting in clumsiness/ poor coordination).

If you're struggling with ongoing anxiety/ experience flashbacks/ feel that you have poor bodily awareness as a result of what you have experienced or you’re supporting a young person who reports the same then Trauma OT can help. If you have dissociative symptoms like de-personalisation/ de-realisation then we can look at holistic strategies that can help to ground you and bring you back into being more in your body.
We also provide sensory training and advice to schools/organisations, considering a systemic approach or individual assessments. Trauma OT therapists don't solely rely on sterile clinic spaces, instead, we're able to suggest affordable sensory equipment that can be used in the safety of your own home or garden. The focus of our work is always on increasing functioning in everyday life, whether that’s issues to do with self care, leisure or productivity/education.

Trauma OT therapists offer one off or regular consultation to both individuals and teams working in health or social care. Our sensory/attachment occupational therapy approaches can be used to either improve staffs own resilience or provide staff with alternative strategies to help manage their clients mental health issues.
